Conservation, environmental care, maintenance of bio-diversity, sustainable consumption and production are all high on our agenda. Active and integrated participation and partnership of local and international organizations has long been considered crucial for the protection of friendly environment and to address issues of global warming & climate change. Together, we can play a vital role in both local and international developments in following areas.

As part of our commitment to bring about the change in behavior of the people and create awareness on how we can develop green environment and augment for sustainable and long lasting solutions for green environment. In its first phase, EWO is campaigning to EVOLVE GREEN THINKING(EGT)project. We have undertaken following campaigns and events.
PROBLEM AREA: Marine & Coastal Pollution
The main city beach is spread over 25 kilometers, about 11 miles which is mainly occupied by hundreds of thousands of visitors throughout the day. These people not only create havoc on the beach by eating and throwing rappers, garbage etc on the beach but also uses the area for sport activities; like volley ball, hand ball, cricket and entertainment; like horse riding, monkey show, camel ride, kite flying etc.
In July 2006, EWO initiated EGT project for awareness and self realization towards protecting biological diversity and upgrading environment with the help of local Government (LG) & Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB). We mobilized 500 students & 25 teachers from various schools of Karachi in a formation of 100/5 from each district of Karachi to carry out “Operation Clean Up” (OCU) in the Beach area of city of Karachi,Pakistan. Each group was motivated and assigned to clean up at least 2 kilometer area of the beach total 10 kilometers. The students and volunteers collected the Garbage from the sea sands and installed sign boards of “USE ME” dustbins on the beach footpaths. The OCU lasted for 14 consecutive days where the transport and sign boards along with technical support were provided by City Government and the certificate of achievement for the participants along with food and beverages were arranged by EWO. Each group devoted 3 hours/day for 14 days on voluntary basis. The EWO undertakes similar activities every quarter with the support of various organizations. Our negotiations are underway to start working on a project with Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to treat drainage and wastage flows properly before draining hazardouz material directly in to the Sea which is devastating for eco system..
Problem Area: Smoke Free Climate (SFC)
Under SFC initiative, we started a small project on “Carbon Free Streets” (CFS) campaign with the collaboration of local authroties, wherein we insisted local authorities to foster the monitoring and fine (challan)carbon emitting vehicles on the streets. The CFS campaign was very successful and yielded encouraging results. The authorities seized some 273 vehicles including cars, buses, trucks, motor bikes and rickshaws that were emitting hazardous gases more than the permitted International Carbon Emission Standards.
We are also working on experimental basis to acquire and provide a Vehicle Tracking and Management System Software (VTMSS) to local authorotoes wherein they can track the vehicles and seize them permanently if the owners have failed to remove/repair their vehicles emission after 3 consective challan tickets. We believe this system will not only remove carbon emitting vehicles from the streets of Karachi, but will also create awareness and fear in densly populated city with an estimated population of more than 20, 000,000 for permanent seizer of their assets. These efforts will be extended to other cosmopolitan cities of Pakistan once the resources required for this project are gathered.
